They enjoyed them so much that we now keep them out with our light table loose parts so they can explore them whenever they want to. The girls loved this easy geology activity and they’ve spent hours examining, sorting, and playing with the rocks. If you have older kids you can ask more in depth geology questions and discuss the things like what types of rocks are they, how are they formed, and where would you find them but with my younger ones I kept it simple. I asked my preschool aged girls simple questions about the textures, size, coloring, patterns, weight, and more as we played with the rocks and agates. The girls decided that we had “rocks, crystals, & gems.” I was impressed with the different types of rocks they remembered from our recent reading of two National Geographic books: Rocks & Minerals and Everything Rocks & Minerals.
